I’m going to be honest here, 2017 was a rough one, and it has been a real struggle to just make it to the end. We lost, somewhat suddenly, three beloved family members throughout the year. It has been one of the harder things I’ve had to deal with. I also lost my job that I had been at for almost 3 years which has appeared to cause what some may call a “1/3 life crisis.” I’m currently half way through a master’s degree (and several thousand dollars in debt) for a career I’m not even sure I want anymore. But, the bigger question is what I do want. And not to mention the stress and emotional toll of this year’s current affairs and political dramas.
So, to say I’m ready for 2018 is an understatement. I’ve never been good at resolutions, like most I give them up by February, usually because I’ve chosen something that is completely unrealistic. So, thought I’d give it another go, but this time try and setting some realistic and achievable goals for 2018.
Go dancing more:
Dancing makes me happy and it is a great way for me to de-stress and blow off steam. So, whether its alone with José in my apartment, at a workout class or at the out with my girls I want to make an effort to do it more often.
Finish Grad school:
I’ve added a few more classes to my schedule and it will involve a lot of work including a practicum experience and a thesis. But if all goes as planned I will be done this time next year.
Consistently post 2x a week on the blog:
I just started writing on this blog again. It had been years. I want to make sure that I stick to it, with a realistic goal of posting at least twice a week.
Go on a date with José once a month:
With me at school full time and work for both of us, our schedules can be hectic and most of our time together is spent in front of the tv. I want to get us off the couch, at least once a month and do something fun outside the four walls of our apartment.
Travel somewhere new:
Travel is always a goal of mine, but this year with all our professional, academic and monetary obstacles it won’t be as easy. So, I’m making this goal simple. One new place in the next 365 days, it can be domestic or international. It just needs to be new.
Do you set goals for the new year? What are you goals or resolutions for 2018?
