A while back I went to Philadelphia for a friends wedding. We didn’t have much time to do any sightseeing, but before we left we decided to do the ultimate Philly Cheesesteak taste test.
First stop was the closest place we could find by our hotel, Steve’s Prince of Steaks. We decided to eat them in the car on the way to our next stop. They were delicious, but I wanted to make sure to pace myself for what was to come!
Who has the best cheesesteak is the eternal question in Philadelpia? Depending on who you ask you will most likely get a different answer almost every time. But, a majority of those times someone will answer either Pat’s or Geno’s. These steak shops are directly across the street from each other, making the the rivalry not jut metaphorical but physical too! It is what some may consider a ‘tourist trap’ and you probably will have to wait in line. But, they move pretty quick and you get delicious food out of it, so that’s my kind of tourist trap.
We got a a cheesesteak at Geno’s and brought it over to Pat’s so we could eat both at the same time to really weigh the decision. I’m a purist when it comes to cheesesteak, just steak no onions, and I’m a with wiz kind of gal. (For those not in the know wiz=cheese wiz. Which to some may sound gross, but the saltiness and creamy aspect work in its favor)
So all in all, each place has delicious cheesesteaks (maybe I’m just not very picky when it comes to beef and cheese); and this was probably one of my favorite days in a long time. I’m getting hungry just looking at these pictures as I write this post. If I was FORCED to choose one, I guess I would pick Geno’s. I know this will be a polarizing decision and many will not feel the same. My husband and my friend who were with me both chose Pat’s as their favorite. But, that is the beauty of Philadelphia, there is a cheesesteak to please everyone’s palate.
Have you had a Philly cheesesteak? Where is your favorite?
